Is Villa Cuba any good for a 4-star hotel?

It is exactly what you would expect from a well-run 4-star all inclusive, clean rooms, good food variety, friendly staff and an excellent beach. The rooms are not luxurious, but they are comfortable and air-conditioned. The main selling point is the beach and the value, you get the same stretch of sand as guests at five-star resorts, for a fraction of the price.

How far is the hotel from the airport?

Villa Cuba is about 140km from Havana airport, roughly a two-and-a-half-hour drive. Your shared transfer is included and you will be driven in an air-conditioned coach or minibus. The journey crosses the Bacunayagua Bridge with spectacular views over the Yumurí Valley.

Can I visit Havana from Varadero?

Yes, day trips to Havana are one of the most popular excursions from Varadero. It is about a two-hour drive each way. You can arrange this locally through the hotel or we can organise a private classic car tour for you. Expect to pay around £60–80 per person for a full day including a guide.

Do I need travel insurance for Cuba?

Yes, Cuba requires all visitors to have valid medical insurance. Because the FCDO currently advises against all but essential travel, most standard UK policies will not cover Cuba. If you arrive without cover that Cuba accepts, you can buy it at the airport from Asistur, part of Cuba's national insurance company, for about US$3 per person per day.

Is Cuba safe to visit right now?

Cuba is experiencing fuel and power shortages, which have prompted the FCDO to advise against all but essential travel. Tourist areas like Varadero continue to operate normally, hotels have generator backup and food supply is maintained. We monitor the situation daily and will give you honest, up-to-date advice before you commit.

Can I upgrade to a better hotel?

DAY BY DAY

Your itinerary

Day 1: Fly to Cuba

Depart London Gatwick on Air Europa via Madrid. On arrival at Havana's José Martí International Airport, your shared transfer takes you east along the coast to Varadero, roughly two and a half hours through the Cuban countryside and across the Bacunayagua Bridge, the highest bridge in Cuba with views over the Yumurí Valley. Check in to the Villa Cuba, drop your bags and head for the beach.

Days 2–7: Varadero Beach, All Inclusive

Six full days with nothing to do except enjoy the beach, the pool, and the all inclusive package. The resort sits at the quieter western end of the Varadero peninsula, so the beach feels less crowded than the strip further east. The sand is fine and white, the water is warm and shallow for a good distance out, and there are sun loungers and shade palapas included.

All your meals are covered, breakfast, lunch and dinner at the buffet restaurant, with a mix of Cuban and international dishes. Drinks are included all day: cocktails at the pool bar, cold beer at the beach bar, and rum-based everything in between. The resort also has a swimming pool, entertainment programme, and evening shows.

If you want to explore beyond the resort, optional excursions are available locally, a catamaran trip to Cayo Blanco, a day in Havana by classic car, the Saturno Cave (a natural cenote you can swim in), or the town of Matanzas for a taste of authentic, non-touristy Cuba.

Day 8: Departure

After breakfast, your shared transfer collects you for the drive back to Havana airport. Fly home via Madrid, arriving in the UK the following morning.
