Day 1Arrive Guatemala City
Transfer to Antigua. Welcome dinner in this beautifully preserved colonial city surrounded by volcanoes.
Day 2Antigua Walking Tour
Explore Antigua's cobblestone streets, ruined churches, and vibrant markets. Afternoon chocolate and coffee workshops.
Day 3Acatenango Volcano Trek
Hike to the overnight camp at 3,800m on Acatenango. Watch Volcan de Fuego erupt across the valley at sunset.
Day 4Summit & Descend
Pre-dawn summit bid for sunrise. Descend and transfer to Lake Atitlan.
Day 5Lake Atitlan
Kayak on the stunning volcanic lake. Visit San Juan La Laguna and San Pedro villages by boat.
Day 6Highland Villages
Explore traditional Mayan villages around the lake. Weaving demonstrations and local homestay experience.
Day 7Chichicastenango Market
Visit Central America's most famous indigenous market. Drive to Coban.
Day 8Semuc Champey
Hike to the viewpoint and swim in the stunning limestone pools of Semuc Champey.
Day 9Transfer to Flores
Journey through the lowlands to Flores, gateway to Tikal. Sunset on Lake Peten Itza.
Day 10Tikal Archaeological Park
Full day exploring the magnificent Mayan city. Climb Temple IV for panoramic jungle views. Howler monkeys in the canopy.
Day 11Yaxha & Farewell
Visit the lesser-known but stunning Yaxha ruins on the lake. Farewell dinner in Flores.
Day 12Departure
Flight to Guatemala City for international connections.

We chose Guatemala over the more obvious destinations and it was the right call. It's raw, authentic, and the Mayan culture is still very much alive. We loved learning to weave with local women near Lake Atitlán. The only reason for four stars is that some of the road journeys were quite long, but the scenery made up for it.

Tikal at sunrise is worth the trip to Guatemala alone. Climbing Temple IV in the dark and then watching the jungle canopy emerge as the sun came up, with howler monkeys roaring all around, extraordinary. The rest of the trip was great too: Antigua's colonial charm, the Semuc Champey natural pools. Good honest food everywhere. Travelfab handled the logistics perfectly.

Guatemala was the most culturally rich trip we've ever taken. Antigua is gorgeous, the cobblestone streets framed by volcanoes, the colourful markets, the chocolate-making workshops. Lake Atitlán took our breath away and the boat ride between the lakeside villages was wonderful. We visited Chichicastenango market on a Thursday and the colours and energy were incredible. Highly recommend.
