Day by day
Your itinerary
Day 1London to Bogotá
Fly from London to Bogotá. Your guide meets you at the airport and takes you to the hotel. Bogotá sits at 2,640 metres, so the rest of the day is yours to take gently.
Day 2Monserrate, Paloquemao market and the Salt Cathedral
Up Monserrate by cable car or funicular to the church at the top, over 3,100 metres up, with the whole of Bogotá spread out below. Next comes Paloquemao, one of the city's main markets, for a tasting of exotic fruit, then north to Zipaquirá, an Andean town built on salt, where the miners carved a Salt Cathedral deep inside the old mine, a chain of chapels telling the Stations of the Cross.
Day 3Bogotá old town, then fly to Pereira
La Candelaria, the old town: street art, colonial churches and Plaza Bolívar, the Gold Museum with its 36,000 pre-Columbian pieces and the Botero Museum. Then the short flight to Pereira in the coffee region.
Day 4Cocora Valley and Salento
By Willys jeep, the old coffee-country workhorse, into the Cocora Valley for a guided walk under the wax palms and into the cloud forest. Afterwards the town of Salento, with its painted balconies and craft shops.
Day 5A coffee farm, then fly to Medellín
A morning on a coffee farm, following the bean from the plant to the cup: picking, sorting, roasting and brewing, with a tasting at the end. In the afternoon you fly to Medellín.
Day 6Medellín: Comuna 13 and the flower farms
The metro and metro cable to Comuna 13, once the most dangerous neighbourhood in the city and now its best known, with a local guide to explain how it changed. In the afternoon, a flower farm in Santa Elena, home of the silleteros who carry their flowers down the mountain every August.
Day 7Santa Fe de Antioquia
West to Santa Fe de Antioquia, the old colonial capital of the region, a town of whitewashed houses and eight churches. You walk the streets, visit the Juan del Corral museum and see the Puente de Occidente, a long suspension bridge over the Cauca river.
Day 8Guatapé and El Peñol, then fly to Cartagena
Out to Guatapé, where every house has a painted panel along its base, and the granite rock of El Peñol, with more than 700 steps to a view across the lakes. Then the flight to Cartagena on the Caribbean coast.
Day 9Cartagena
The view from the convent on La Popa hill, the San Felipe fortress that kept the pirates out, then a walk through the walled city from the Clock Tower gate to the church of San Pedro Claver and the Plaza de Santo Domingo.
Day 10Cartagena at your own pace
A free day. Walk the walls at sunset, spend the afternoon in Getsemaní, or ask us about a boat out to the Rosario islands.
Day 11Cartagena to London
Transfer to the airport for the flight home via Bogotá.

See the fortress that kept the pirates out, walk the walled city from the Clock Tower gate, wander the street art of Getsemaní, and end the day with a Caribbean sunset.
